Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Todd Stone released the following statement in response to the recent announcement regarding expanded ferry service between Victoria and Vancouver harbours:
“Last October I announced the revitalization of the Belleville Wharf, the Victoria base for Clipper operations, and already this investment is paying off with new investments and expanded services between two busy harbours.
“The announcement that the Clipper is expanding its operations to Vancouver is good news for the province, and the City of Victoria. It is a clear demonstration of the appeal of the spectacular natural beauty and the strong, vital economy we have here in British Columbia.
“Both Clipper and Riverside Marine, which announced it would introduce service earlier this year, are experienced ferry operators, and obviously think there is a great opportunity here.
“These two firms are offering services that target the expanding tourist market.
“Tourism is a key sector in the BC Jobs Plan, and important to the economy of the entire province. With this sector strong and growing, we can expect that ventures such as this will attract even more visitors to enjoy the delights of our gateway cities, Victoria and Vancouver, and beyond.
“These travel opportunities provide important economic ties to the United States and create trade and tourism and economic opportunities for Victoria and Vancouver Island – and now Vancouver.”
