CWMM Consulting Engineers Ltd. of Kelowna took the top award for Design and Contract Preparation – Structures at the 12th annual Deputy Minister’s Consulting Engineers Awards, for its exceptional work on the Wardner and Wasa Bridge rehabilitation.
CWMM Consulting Engineers Ltd. was awarded a $250,000 contract that included detailed structural inspections of the two bridges and subsequent rehabilitation design, to ensure these important structures will safely carry the heavy truck traffic of the East Kootenays for many years to come.
“This award recognizes how the firm successfully addressed the challenges of this structural rehabilitation project. Both bridges needed extensive concrete repairs in areas that were difficult to access. Bearings also needed replacing which required complex bridge jacking, and throughout the project CWMM handled these layers of complications with professionalism,” said Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Todd Stone. “Congratulations as well to all of the finalists for their work to improve B.C.’s transportation system and for helping to move people safely on our roads, highways and bridges.”
“In terms of economic significance, both the Wardner and Wasa bridges are designated as heavy haul routes and part of a larger industrial corridor in this part of the province,” said MLA Steve Thomson. “Bridge upgrades such as these reinforce our commitment to increasing our efficiency and growing the economy and I congratulate all the local team members who helped make this project a success.”
The finalists in this category were Associated Engineering Limited for Highway 99 – Bridgeport Road Culvert rehabilitation, and Morrison Hershfield for the Bertrand Bridge replacement.
