Binnie Construction Services Ltd. of Surrey took the top award for Construction Management and Supervision at the 12th annual Deputy Minister’s Consulting Engineers Awards, for its exceptional work on the Big White passing lane and intersection improvements on Highway 33.
Binnie Construction Services Ltd. was awarded a $500,000 contract to oversee construction of a 2.9 kilometre southbound passing and truck climbing lane on Highway 33, along with a new intersection with Big White Road.
“Big White Ski Resort is one of the most popular winter destinations in the province, so it is vital that the connecting highway is safe for tourists and families traveling to and from the resort. The company took the extra time to foster a close relationship with the resort during construction which was a great example of excellent teamwork. Congratulations to all involved,” said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Todd Stone. “Congratulations as well to all of the finalists for their work to improve B.C.’s transportation system and for helping to move people safely on our roads, highways and bridges.”
“Regardless of whether you are heading to Big White in search of fresh powder, a local resident or a truck driver, this road serves many different users and is well travelled 12 months of the year,” said Surrey-Cloverdale MLA Stephanie Cadieux. “These improvements make the road safer for everyone who uses it. Congratulations to the local team at Binnie Construction for showing excellent leadership on this particular project.”
The finalists in this category were Gordon Harvey & Associates Ltd for the Highway 8 Rattlesnake Bridge and Three Mile Bridge projects, and WSP Canada Inc. for Highway 97 Chetwynd base and frost treatment.
