Several road resurfacing projects are set to kick off in the Kamloops and Nicola Valley areas, including on Highway 97C in Logan Lake, Highway 8 outside of Merritt and on Douglas Lake and Long Lake Roads.
“These projects are now tendered on BC Bid and should get underway very soon,” Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Todd Stone said. “Drivers should allow extra time to get to their destinations and watch out for roadside workers.”
Highway 97C will be resurfaced between Logan Lake and the Highland Valley Copper Mine. This project has now been posted on BC Bid and will improve the daily commute for employees working at the mine.
Resurfacing improvements to Highway 8 through Merritt and on Douglas Lake Road are expected to begin in early August.
“These roads serve as important connections for local residents so it is important to keep them in good condition," said MLA for Fraser-Nicola Jackie Tegart. “Drivers will see noticeable improvements in the coming months with the completion of these road-improvement projects.”
On Highway 5A outside of Merritt, a hot-in-place recycle project that began in the spring, is now substantially complete, improving almost 30 kilometres of road. That contract, valued at $2.6 million, was awarded to Peter’s Brothers.
Kamloops road users will see improvements to 13 kilometres of Long Lake Road and a short section of the Trans-Canada Highway from Springhill Overpass to Sagebrush Overpass. That project has now been posted on BC Bid and the ministry expects work to start by mid-July or early August.
