An arterial retaining wall on Highway 3B/22 in Rossland will be replaced this summer with a new cast-in-place concrete structure.
The recently awarded $2.2-million contract to Copcan Civil Ltd. will see crews starting to mobilize people and machinery around the Miners Hall/Columbia Upper Avenue area within the City of Rossland.
“The current retaining wall is at the end of its serviceable life and needs to be replaced,” said Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Todd Stone. “In addition to the improved design, the new wall will also be more aesthetically pleasing to the eye for the numerous motorists that drive by it every day.”
The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure and the City of Rossland have been working collaboratively throughout this project to minimize delays. Motorists on Highway 3B/22 can expect daily single-lane closures in both directions once construction starts.
As the City of Rossland will be doing other work in the area, including the Washington Street improvements, travellers are encouraged to check DriveBC for updates on delays and are asked to be patient at this busy time.
The replacement of the retaining wall is expected to be complete by mid-October.
