Drivers are advised that Highway 1 near Three Valley Gap 19 kilometres west of Revelstoke will be closed in both directions on Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2016, to facilitate the safe installation of the first four Remote Avalanche Control systems.
Extended closures will be in effect on Sept. 20, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. These closures are required to protect motorists from rock fall which may occur while crews are working on steep slopes above the highway.
Travellers are advised to plan their trip well in advance and allow extra time. Motorists are asked to drive with caution, follow all signs and watch for traffic control personnel. Further closures are expected but will be less than 30 minutes, and will take place during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.
