Drivers along Highway 16 and visitors to the Ancient Forest/Chun T’oh Whudujut Park are advised that there will be additional closures of the parking lot and Universal Boardwalk and Trail for September and early October, as the Province continues highway intersection improvements and parking lot upgrades to increase the safety and accessibility of the new park.
Highway 16 will also be reduced to single lane alternating traffic during construction. Traffic delays are expected to be less than 20 minutes along the route. All travellers are reminded to obey signs and watch for traffic control personnel.
The additional closures and traffic delays will take place on the following days:
- Monday, Sept. 26 to Friday, Sept. 30
- Monday, Oct. 3 to Friday, Oct. 7
- Open on the weekends.
The construction schedule was delayed due to wet weather conditions over the last few weeks, but the ministry does not expect further closures of the park after Oct. 7.
Please check www.drivebc.ca for up-to-date traffic advisories in the area and check BC Parks’ website: http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/bcparks/explore/parkpgs/ancient-forest/ for up-to-date park information as the schedule above may change.
Once the work is complete, residents and visitors will have better highway access to the Ancient Forest/Chun T'oh Whudujut Park and improved parking as part of this $1-million park upgrade.
