Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Todd Stone has made changes to the B.C. Pavilion Corporation’s (PavCo) board of directors, with the departure of two members and appointment of four new members, who will bring diversified experience to the provincial Crown corporation in charge of BC Place, the Vancouver Convention Centre and Corporate Office.
Jatinder Rai, John Dyble, Elizabeth Model and Ron Mundi have been appointed to the board, with Don Zurowski and Stephanie Sharp’s departure. Zurowski has served on the board since 2012 and Sharp since 2013. Both have provided valuable expertise, strategic direction and principled governance during their time on PavCo’s board.
The new members of PavCo’s board of directors have been selected to serve based on their diverse knowledge and skill sets to usher PavCo into the next phase of its development in becoming a world-class leader in service, events and entertainment:
- Jatinder Rai is founder, president and chief executive officer of Response Advertising Inc., a leading specialist communications agency that has been providing creative media, market research and public relations-based communications solutions to some of the major marketers in Canada and the United States. Previously, he served as both a member and interim chair on ICBC’s board of directors. Rai is a graduate from the University of Victoria.
- Elizabeth Model is the chief executive officer of the Downtown Surrey Business Improvement Association. Previously, she was the general manager of operations for Captain’s Cove Marina Ltd., Cove Links Golf Course, Foremarke Management and Springbank Land Development. Prior to that, she was the executive director for the Chamber of Commerce serving Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and Port Moody, the director of D.T. Addams and Associates Ltd. and the owner of Travelodge in Vernon. Active in her community, she is the chair of the Better Transit and Transportation Society and a member of the Simon Fraser University Advisory Council for Surrey, past president of the Better Transit and Transportation Coalition, past chair of the Surrey International Marathon Society, past president of the BC Chamber Executives, past chair of the Toll Free Calling Task Force Lower Mainland, past member of the BC Chamber Executives, past member of the Chamber Commerce Executives of Canada and past member of the American Chamber of Commerce Executives. She holds a bachelor of sciences from Brigham Young University.
- John Dyble retired as the deputy minister to the Premier, cabinet secretary and head of the BC Public Service after serving 27 years in public service. Previously, he served as the deputy minister with the B.C. Ministry of Health Services, deputy minister with the B.C. Ministry of Forests and Range, and deputy minister with the B.C. Ministry of Transportation. He came to the Ministry of Transportation in 1997 as assistant deputy minister of planning and major projects and was appointed assistant deputy minister of highways in 2001. Before joining the BC Public Service, he worked in consulting engineering at Sandwell Swan Wooster. Dyble holds a bachelor of applied science in civil engineering and his master of business administration from the University of British Columbia. In addition, he is a registered professional engineer.
- Ron Mundi is an entrepreneur in the hospitality industry. Mundi presently owns six hotel properties and oversees 375 employees. Some of his hotels include the Coast Kamloops Hotel and Conference Centre, the Holiday Inn Express Kamloops and the Best Western Cedar Park Inn Edmonton among others. Prior to owning his first hotel in 2000, Mundi was active in various businesses and he worked for the Punjab government in India before relocating to Canada. In his community, he is a member of the Thompson Rivers University (TRU) Community Trust Board where he provides industry advice regarding the expansion and direction of the University. He has also brought delegates from TRU to promote the university to students in India.
The government is committed to continued excellence in the management and oversight of its Crown corporations. PavCo’s mandate to generate economic and community benefit for the people of British Columbia through prudent management of public facilities remains a principal priority and the Province is confident that these new appointments will contribute toward successfully achieving that end.
