The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure has committed to re-paving the Prince Rupert Arterial at Second Avenue and McBride from the BC Ferries terminal to McClymont Bridge, announced Minister Todd Stone today.
“A top priority of B.C. on the Move is keeping our province's highways and side roads in good condition,” said Stone. “Second Ave and McBride is a key part of the city’s downtown area, and paving this section of the arterial will improve access from the ferry terminal to central Prince Rupert.”
Just over four kilometres of the arterial will be paved, with an estimated $4.5-million investment in the project. The re-paving project is scheduled for tender in early 2017.
The City of Prince Rupert is committed to investing in the improvement and accessibility of their downtown core and the ministry is pleased to be a part of this continued effort.
“Second Avenue and McBride Street are the largest corridors through our city, the highway to the ferry terminal, and often the first impressions that visitors receive,” said Prince Rupert Mayor Lee Brain. “As one of Prince Rupert’s major thoroughfares, the city is excited to hear of the paving improvements announced by the Province.”
This project is part of B.C. on the Move, the B.C. government’s 10-year plan for the improvement of the province’s transportation network. The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure will invest almost $2.7 billion over the next three years to improve British Columbia’s transportation network.
