Construction of intersection improvements and installation of traffic signals at the Highway 97 and Dangerous Goods Route (DGR) intersection is now complete, announced Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Todd Stone.
“Highway 97 through Dawson Creek is a heavily travelled route, particularly by commercial traffic serving resource industries throughout northern British Columbia,” said Stone. “Traffic signals at the DGR intersection will not only increase reliability for truckers who use this busy road to keep goods and services moving through the region, but safety will also be improved for residents and visitors to the region.”
The $1.75-million project was completed by Interoute Construction Ltd. of Fort St. John.
“The completion of this project is a great example of how quickly we are able to address our local transportation needs and make the improvements needed to keep things moving,” said Peace River South MLA Mike Bernier. “We are committed to providing our local industries with safe and reliable infrastructure, and this latest upgrade is proof of that."
This project is part of B.C. on the Move, the B.C. government’s 10-year plan for the improvement of the province’s transportation network. The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure will invest almost $2.7 billion in improvements over the next three years.
