The construction of a new, modern roundabout is now complete on Highway 97A in Sicamous, bringing more efficient traffic flow and improved safety to residents and local businesses.

“This newly constructed roundabout will benefit the local community as well as travellers entering Sicamous off the Trans-Canada Highway by providing an easier, more navigable intersection at Main Street and Highway 97A,” said Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Todd Stone. “These improvements mean motorists will have better access to local businesses, and new bike lanes and sidewalks mean safer conditions for cyclists and pedestrians.”

In addition, the ministry improved the visibility at the intersection with LED street lighting, made improvements to the alignment of Paradise Avenue at Highway 97A and constructed crosswalks with refuge islands and bicycle lanes to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists.

“After years of concern for the travelling public and local residents, the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure in collaboration with past and present municipal councils has accomplished what will be an amazing solution for traffic flow at the end of what was formally known as ‘the Octopus’,” said Sicamous Mayor, Terry Rysz. “I would personally like to thank the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure for their hard work, diligence and professionalism in bringing to fruition this essential roundabout project.”

B.C. on the Move provides a comprehensive roadmap for transportation investment and strategic policy actions over the next 10 years. Over the next three years, the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure will invest $2.7 billion to improve British Columbia’s transportation network.
