A project to replace the Irishman Creek Bridge on Highway 3 east of Yahk is now complete.
“This bridge is an important crossing for those who use the Crowsnest Highway,” said Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Todd Stone. “A new bridge is now in place and features two metre-wide shoulders, which will allow pedestrians and cyclists to cross the bridge safely.”
The bridge approaches have also been repaved to allow for a smoother transition onto the bridge deck. The new bridge has a design life of 50 to 75 years and meets all current navigable waters standards.
“Highways and bridges in the Kootenays are some of the most well-travelled in the province,” said Kootenay East MLA Bill Bennett. “We need to ensure they are as safe as possible. This bridge will improve the safety of our residents and visitors alike as they travel the Crowsnest Highway."
The cost of the project is $2.2 million and was completed by North Gate Pacific Contracting Ltd.
This project is part of B.C. on the Move, the B.C. government’s 10-year plan for the improvement of the province’s transportation network.
