Yellowhead Road and Bridge (North Peace) has won this year’s Deputy Minister’s Contractor of the Year Award of Excellence in the maintenance category, for its work in Service Area 22.
“Congratulations to Yellowhead Road and Bridge for this well-deserved award,” said Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Todd Stone. “The company maintains a very large service area with particularly challenging weather and road conditions. This recognition highlights the excellent work they do year-round to keep northern roads and highways safe and efficient for British Columbians and visitors.”
Service Area 22 consists of approximately 3,500 kilometres of road and 76 bridges. Yellowhead Road and Bridge continually looks for innovative ways to improve efficiencies and safety for their staff and the travelling public.
In addition to providing excellence in highway road and bridge maintenance, this spring the company was faced with a 3,000-hectare wildfire that burned through the Peace region. With the June flooding, they were quick to respond to many washout sites throughout the Peace to get highways and side roads open. Yellowhead Road and Bridge was instrumental in helping to keep the public safe and informed during these events.
Along with their commitment to providing safety on B.C.’s roads, Yellowhead Road and Bridge participates in various community activities and volunteers their time, expertise and equipment for projects that benefit local residents and improve community infrastructure.
The Deputy Minister’s Contractor of the Year Award of Excellence recognizes construction and maintenance companies demonstrating excellence in the categories of grading, paving, bridges and structures, safety innovation, and highway maintenance work throughout the province.
The 14th annual awards were hosted by the B.C. Road Builders & Heavy Construction Association on Friday, Dec. 2 in Victoria.
The other finalist in the maintenance category was Mainroad South Island Contracting LP for Service Area 1 (South Vancouver Island).
