More than 70 leaders from British Columbia’s justice and public safety sector joined with technology experts to explore how technology can improve the administration of justice and provide benefits to both the sector and to British Columbians who interact with the system.
During the eighth Justice Summit at the University of British Columbia’s Allard School of Law in June 2017, participants identified needs and priorities across the sector that build on technology improvements over the last decade. Suggestions from this summit will inform the ninth summit in November, where participants will review the proceedings and consider concrete proposals for action.
A report of the eighth summit has been delivered to Attorney General David Eby, Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General Mike Farnworth and to the chief justices and chief judge of the province's three courts. The report is posted online: http://www.justicebc.ca/justice-summits/
Attendees at the eighth summit included federal, provincial and municipal justice organizations and agencies, police, Indigenous justice organizations, independent justice professionals, academics, technology experts, the judiciary and the ministries of Attorney General and Public Safety and Solicitor General.
