Finance Minister Carole James will meet with banks, investment firms and credit rating agencies to discuss the Budget 2017 Update.
Between Oct. 10 and 13, James will travel to New York, Montreal, Toronto, and Washington, D.C. In New York, the minister will speak to the Canadian Association of New York. While in Washington, she will meet with the Canadian ambassador.
The tour is an opportunity to promote B.C.’s strong credit credentials to domestic and international fixed-income investors. The minister will highlight B.C.’s robust economy, balanced budget, and strong, responsible fiscal plan that puts people first. Investors will hear specifically about B.C.’s GDP outlook, employment, retail sales, housing starts and exports, which have all exceeded expectations.
The estimated travel and accommodation cost for the minister and her ministerial assistant is approximately $8,500. Information on final costs will be made available once the tour is complete and costs have been finalized.
