The British Columbia government is providing $109,950 to communities in the Robson Valley and $99,722 to the Community Futures Development Corporation of Fraser Fort George, Minister of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development Doug Donaldson announced today.
The funding is part of more than $10.1 million being awarded to 90 eligible local governments, First Nations and not-for-profit organizations under the BC Rural Dividend program.
The Corporation of the Village of McBride is being awarded $100,000 to carry out Phase 2 of the McBride Mountain Trails Network, which will add 6.7 kilometres to the natural surface trail system built during Phase 1 of the project. The Robson Valley Mountain Bike Association, in partnership with Recreation Sites and Trails BC, will maintain the trails and facilities, and provide public services.
Dunster Community Forest is receiving $9,950 for Dunster Community Recreation Phase 1. This phase of the project is in partnership with Recreation Sites and Trails BC and will upgrade access and parking at two local trails. The work involved includes danger tree assessments, falling and cleanup, installing kiosks, signboards and mapping, as well as archeological assessments.
As well, the Community Futures Development Corporation of Fraser Fort George is receiving $99,722 to provide training and support to owners of existing small- and medium-sized businesses to expand their business. Services will be delivered in McBride, Valemount and Mackenzie and will provide local entrepreneurs with, among other things, leadership and mentorship skills training.
The Rural Dividend program provides grants of up to $100,000 each for single applicants, and up to $500,000 for partnerships to help rural communities stabilize their economies and create long-term local employment.
The program is under review and it is being determined how best to distribute the remaining Rural Dividend funds, taking into account the community impacts of this year's wildfire season and other exceptional circumstances.
Rural development activities support government’s commitment to building a strong, sustainable and innovative economy that creates well-paying jobs for all British Columbians.
