Young people in Port Alberni will be able to discover the skills they will need for tomorrow’s in-demand occupations, and engage in a direct dialogue with local employers and post-secondary schools about upcoming career opportunities at WorkBC’s Career Education Day.
Career Education Day will be at Alberni District Secondary, on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2016.
Career Education Day is a day where students in grades 10-12 can explore, experience and learn about a variety of careers through hands-on programs, business experts, post-secondary institutions and more. This one-day event is a chance for high school students nearing graduation to learn about upcoming career opportunities available in Port Alberni and the surrounding area.
Parents, teachers and career counsellors may benefit, too — by discovering ways to educate and support youth in their career exploration.
The Find Your Fit portion of the event will be open to the public from 3:30 p.m. – 6 p.m.
Find Your Fit is part of B.C.’s Skills for Jobs Blueprint commitment to re-engineer education and deliver the skilled workforce needed in B.C.’s growing economy. The tour has had more than 195, 000 participants so far, and was most recently in Port Hardy.
Quote:
Shirley Bond, Minister of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training and Minister Responsible for Labour –
“We’re expecting nearly one million job openings by 2025 and we need to ensure that we have a skilled and educated workforce ready to meet the demand. Career Day allows young people to know what employment opportunities they have through hands on learning experiences and conversations with local employers and post-secondary institutes.”
