Young people of Kamloops will have an opportunity to learn the skills they will need for tomorrow’s in-demand occupations.
WorkBC’s Find Your Fit tour will be making its next stop at Kamloops South Secondary on Tuesday, March 14, 2017.
Find Your Fit is an interactive event where individuals of all ages can learn about B.C.’s in-demand careers and test out some of the skills they would need for those occupations. Participants also will get to know career planning tools – such as Blueprint Builder and Career Trek videos – and the job resources and labour market information WorkBC.ca offers.
Parents, teachers and career counsellors may benefit, too – by discovering ways to educate and support youth in their career exploration.
The Find Your Fit event will be open to the public from 3:15 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Find Your Fit is part of B.C.’s Skills for Jobs Blueprint commitment to re-engineer education and deliver the skilled workforce needed in B.C.’s growing economy. The tour has had more than 200,000 participants so far, most recently in Abbotsford.
B.C.’s Skills for Jobs Blueprint was recently spotlighted in the BC Jobs Plan five-year update. Since 2014, the Blueprint has been re-engineering the provincial education and apprenticeship systems so students and workers have the skills they need to be first in line for jobs in B.C.’s growing economy.
Quote:
Todd Stone, MLA for Kamloops-South Thompson –
“Through B.C.’s Skills for Jobs Blueprint, we are helping British Columbians get the skills they need to be first in line for the in-demand jobs of the future. Programs like Find Your Fit help our youth discover the career paths they want to follow and introduces them to the skills they need to succeed.”
Terry Lake, MLA for Kamloops-North Thompson –
“Most in-demand jobs will require some kind of post-secondary or skills training. Programs like WorkBC’s Find Your Fit engage youth in a hands-on way that explores the necessary skills to work in the range of in-demand jobs our province will need.”
