The public is invited to provide feedback on proposed technical changes to the next edition of British Columbia’s building, plumbing and fire codes.
The objectives of the proposed changes to the B.C. codes include improving public health and safety, accessibility, fire and structural protection, as well as energy and water efficiency in buildings.
The Province has launched an online survey to seek input on the changes that may be included in the 2018 edition of the B.C. codes.
The survey will be released in two phases. Phase 1 will consist of the majority of proposed changes. Phase 2, which will be launched in 2018, will consist of accessibility provisions.
Phase 1 of the survey is available at the link below until Feb. 28, 2018: www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/industry/construction-industry/building-codes-standards/the-codes/public-review
New editions of the B.C. codes are based on the most-recent edition of the National Codes of Canada – in this case the 2015 National Codes. The 2018 B.C. codes will include variations to the 2015 national codes, which reflect the province’s geography, climate and construction sector.
If you have any questions about the proposed code changes or the survey, please email: BSSB.public.review@gov.bc.ca
