Deputy Premier and Minister Responsible for Housing Rich Coleman has presented the Honour House Society with a $4,330,000 cheque on behalf of the Province to pay off its remaining mortgage.
In making the presentation as Military Liaison for the Province, Coleman recognized Honour House’s efforts to provide a home away from home for Canadian Forces, emergency services and other uniformed personnel and their families.
Honour House allows these people, who are not from the Metro Vancouver area, to stay completely free of charge, alleviating some of the stress associated with medical care and treatment.
The grant was funded through the Housing Endowment Fund and Community Partnership Initiatives programs.
More than 650 guests attended the March 4 fundraising gala, which provides the bulk of operating costs to run the house.
Honour House is a heritage mansion in New Westminster. It was acquired in 2009 when it underwent extensive renovation and was re-opened in 2011.
Quotes:
Deputy Premier, Minister of Natural Gas Development and Minister Responsible for Housing and Military Liaison for the Province Rich Coleman –
“Honour House is a place of refuge and comfort that provides a home-like setting, so people can concentrate on getting better, and not worry about where they are going to live. The Province is pleased to pay off the House mortgage so it can continue to do the great work it does.”
President, Board of Directors, Honour House, Al De Genova –
“When a family member is receiving treatment it’s hard on the entire family. Especially with all of the hard work and sacrifice the military gives to the people of Canada, it’s only right for us to give back any way we can.”
