Premier Christy Clark has issued the following statement to mark the celebration of Christmas by Orthodox Christians and Eastern Catholics:
“As Orthodox Christian and Eastern Catholic families and friends around the globe gather to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, I would like to extend warm wishes to those celebrating in British Columbia, including the Armenian, Coptic, Ukrainian, Russian, Serbian and Greek communities.
“For many, this time of year is a holy one marked by days of traditional observances, including special worship services, fasts and feasts, and a renewal of faith in God. It is also a time to spend with loved ones, to reflect on one’s good fortunes and to extend a helping hand to those in need.
“As we embrace the New Year, we take pride in the fact that our province is a beacon of hope, diversity and peace.
“On behalf of all British Columbians, I wish everyone celebrating at this time a blessed Christmas and a healthy, happy and prosperous 2017.”
