Premier Christy Clark has issued the following statement on the passing of Arthur Manuel:
“Arthur Manuel was a steadfast, courageous champion for Indigenous people across Canada.
“History will remember Arthur as Chief of the Neskonlith Indian Band, but also as one of the first and most-effective advocates of lasting reconciliation, working tirelessly and patiently through organizations such as the World Trade Organization and the United Nations.
“Throughout his life, Arthur wore many hats: activist, leader, author, and perhaps most importantly, proud father.
“My thoughts are with those who knew him best, including the Secwepemc Nation and his family.”
