Premier Christy Clark has issued the following statement to celebrate the Year of the Rooster:
“In communities throughout the province, homes are cleaned to symbolize a fresh start, traditional meals prepared for guests, and lucky pouches filled with coins and sweets as families and friends gather to celebrate the Lunar New Year, and welcome the Year of the Rooster.
“Celebrated by Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese and many other communities, Lunar New Year is a time to reflect on the past year, express gratitude to one’s ancestors, and look ahead to the New Year with hope. The Year of the Rooster is auspicious, marked by integrity, perseverance, and success through hard work.
“British Columbia’s strong and long-standing ties to Asia have resulted in flourishing communities and neighbourhoods – and a competitive advantage in business, investment, and international trade.
“On behalf of all British Columbians, I wish you a peaceful, healthy and prosperous Year of the Rooster.”
