Premier Christy Clark issued the following statement about the death of former Abbotsford Mayor George Ferguson:

"George Ferguson is nothing less than an icon.

“Mayor for an incredible 33 years, working with nine premiers and eight prime ministers, George was a transformative figure, ushering Abbotsford from its rural roots to the thriving, vibrant community it is today.

“That would be more than enough to be remembered – but George's legacy reaches far beyond the Fraser Valley. He was known throughout B.C. as an example of how to do public service right – with humility, accessibility, and more than a little good humour. 

“My thoughts are with his friends, family, and all those he touched in his career.”
