Premier Christy Clark has issued the following statement on Nowruz:
“For over 3,000 years, people have gathered together around the Haft Seen, and the fire to celebrate Nowruz – the new year and the beginning of spring.
“From ancient origins, Nowruz is a unifying force, crossing boundaries of religion, and culture. It is celebrated by millions of people in dozens of countries around the world as time of renewal and rejuvenation. Friends and families gather around the traditional haft-seen table to share meals, gifts and ring in the new year with each other. Celebrations also include jumping over bonfires, a symbolic purification ritual.
“On behalf of all British Columbians, I wish everyone celebrating Nowruz health, happiness and success in the coming year.”
