Premier John Horgan has issued the following statement in celebration of the start of Chanukah:

“At sunset tonight, Jewish families in British Columbia and around the world will gather to celebrate the beginning of Chanukah.

“The story of Chanukah is the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil, peace over war. More than 2,000 years later, this story continues to give inspiration, hope and faith for the Jewish community.

“For eight days and nights, families will light the candles of the chanukiyah, give blessings, exchange gifts and give thanks for the miracles of Chanukah.

“I wish everyone celebrating a Happy Chanukah, a Chanukah Sameach. May the light shine brightly‎ in your homes.”
