The BC Coroners Service is investigating the deaths of two men who died after a vessel capsized near Tofino on April 30, 2017.
The vessel was carrying five men when it started to take on water northwest of Bartlett Island during the early afternoon of April 30. As the vessel took on water, the men were able to contact the Canadian Coast Guard for assistance before the vessel capsized. Multiple private vessels and Canadian Coast Guard personnel responded. The two men were unresponsive in the water when assistance arrived. Resuscitation was performed and the men were transported to hospital; however, the attempts at resuscitation were not successful.
The BC Coroners Service and RCMP will continue to investigate these deaths.
