A major resurfacing project east of Kamloops will begin this spring, as the ministry starts to tender the first projects of the coming construction season.
“Resurfacing of Highway 97 near Monte Creek and Barnhartvale Road is now going to tender on BC Bid,” said Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Todd Stone. “The project will provide smoother and safer conditions for motorists using these routes.”
Approximately four kilometres of paving will take place on Highway 97 from the brake check down Monte Creek Hill to the Trans-Canada Highway and a 17-kilometre section of Barnhartvale Road will be resurfaced between the City of Kamloops boundary and Highway 97. The work on Barnhartvale Road will widen the paved road surface by approximately half a metre, which will help improve safety for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.
The project is expected to start as early as April and wrap up by October. During the summer, the majority of the work on Highway 97 will take place during the evening hours (7 p.m. – 7 a.m.) to minimize delays. Motorists should check DriveBC for the latest updates.
