The travelling public is advised that the Bailey Bridge which crosses the Nicomekl River on King George Boulevard has been temporarily closed to traffic for necessary repair work.
Ministry staff are working closely with the maintenance contractor on assembling crews, and securing materials to start the repair work to the truss panels and the abutments this weekend.
The bridge will be re-opened mid next week, with load restrictions. This will limit traffic on the bridge to cars and trailers weighing less than 5,000 kg.
Ministry staff are working on options for a longer-term solution that would allow all vehicles to cross the bridge, with no weight restrictions.
The one-lane northbound bridge is parallel to the two-lane structure on King George Boulevard that remains open.
Traffic queues are expected while the work is underway, and drivers are reminded to obey posted signs and traffic personnel.
