Commuters are advised the northbound fast lane of Highway 99 at the 152nd St. underpass in Surrey is open following an incident Monday where an over-height commercial vehicle struck the underpass.
The incident damaged three of the bridge’s girders. With the help of structural engineers, ministry crews braced the structure in order to have one of the northbound lanes re-opened to traffic for the morning commute.
The other northbound lane is closed due to structural supports that are occupying the lane. This lane remains closed while ministry engineers conduct further inspections. The 152nd St. Interchange also remains closed at this time.
Once repairs are complete, the ministry will work with ICBC on a claim to recoup the costs of the damage.
Motorists are advised to check DriveBC for updates and plan an alternate route.
