Northwest Community College has received approval to change its name to Coast Mountain College, effective June 18, 2018.
After a strategic review in the summer of 2016, which included extensive public consultation, the college is now expanding its vision as the preferred destination for experiential, place-based learning. This is a vision that appeals to students around the northwest, throughout B.C. and internationally.
Stakeholder engagement during the planning process concluded that the commonly used term “northwest” did not effectively brand the college’s unique features.
The new name reflects the rugged and beautiful area of the province the college serves, and comes after two years of research and planning that involved students, staff, faculty, alumni, First Nations and community members.
The name change will have no negative impact on students. Past students credentials are still valid, and they may request to have their credentials re-issued under the Coast Mountain College name if they desire.
