Mitzi Dean, Parliamentary Secretary for Gender Equality, has issued the following statement:
“Everyone deserves the opportunity to succeed, but for too long, people in B.C. weren’t able to get ahead. Our government is working hard every day to make life better for all British Columbians and make sure everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
“When people can reach their full potential, our communities and our economy are strengthened. Yet women and transgender people in B.C. continue to face sexism and gender-based violence and discrimination in their everyday life.
“That’s why our government is taking real, concrete steps to take on the systems and barriers that are preventing us from reaching gender equality.
“From a universal child care system that gives parents the choice to return to work, to taking action on gender-based violence, we’re working to make sure everyone in our province is treated justly and has access to the same opportunities.
“Because when we make progress towards gender equality, everyone benefits.”
