The BC Wildfire Service is aware of Category 3 open burning operations planned along Highway 37 in the Meziadin Junction area, about 55 kilometres east of Stewart and about 245 kilometres south of Dease Lake.
The exact timing of these controlled burns will depend on site and weather conditions.
The majority of these fires will be lit along a 60-kilometre stretch of Highway 37, north of Meziadin Junction. Smoke and flames could be visible from the highway and surrounding areas.
These burn operations will proceed only if site, weather and venting conditions are suitable. All Category 3 open fires must comply with the Environmental Management Act and the Open Burning Smoke Control Regulation. This helps minimize the amount of smoke generated.
To report a wildfire, unattended campfire or open burning violation, call 1 800 663-5555 toll-free or *5555 on a cellphone.
