Bruce Ralston, Minister of Jobs, Trade and Technology, has released the following statement to mark Red Tape Awareness Week:
“By improving services and regulations, your government is making life more affordable for people throughout the province. It’s why the Government of British Columbia has officially proclaimed Jan. 22 to 26 as Red Tape Awareness Week.
“Streamlining government services and regulations helps people and businesses save time, reduce costs, create good jobs and grow investment in our province. Well-crafted, up-to-date regulations and policies create efficiencies, encourage innovation and make interaction with government easier.
“The Canadian Federation of Independent Business co-ordinates Red Tape Awareness Week across Canada. The small businesses that they represent form the backbone of B.C.’s economy, generating more than one-third of the provincial GDP and making up 98% of all businesses in our province. Small businesses are critical to the social and cultural fabric of B.C.’s communities, and that’s why we are committed to ensuring they have the supports they need to continue to prosper.
“In addition to improving services and B.C.’s regulatory environment, the Province has reduced the small business corporate income tax rate by 20% – from 2.5% to 2% – and will continue to find ways to support the sector through the creation of the Small Business Task Force, which will provide recommendations to government on how to build on existing strengths and address future challenges.”
