Premier John Horgan has issued the following statement in honour of Earth Day:
“Every year, we honour Earth Day by reaffirming our commitment to tackle climate change and protect our environment for future generations.
“Climate change and environmental degradation affects everyone. Sitting back and accepting the status quo isn’t an option. If we do that, we fail our environment, our economy and future generations.
“That’s why our government is making B.C. a leader in climate action, and building a strong economy that works better for people and the environment.
“We’re developing a road map to grow a sustainable economy, and seize upon new and lasting economic opportunity, while reducing carbon pollution.
“And we’ve committed to legislating an interim target for 2030 of a 40% overall reduction in carbon emissions, and to introducing a comprehensive climate strategy in the fall.
“Our government is going to keep working hard to make life better for people, and to protect B.C.'s environment, economy and coast. Our shared future depends on it.”
