Premier John Horgan has issued the following statement in celebration of the 2018 BC Summer Games:
“Over the next four days, athletes, coaches, volunteers and fans will come together in Cowichan to be part of the 40th BC Summer Games.
“Sport brings people together, helps us overcome barriers and differences, and plays a powerful role in the lives of young people.
“A kid trying a new sport today could be a BC Summer Games champion of the future, and move on to higher levels of competition, like Team BC, Team Canada and beyond. The experience, camaraderie and confidence they build will help them succeed in life.
“Our government is investing in sports so more kids have more opportunities to get involved in lifelong healthy pursuits. This includes delivering $21 million each year for grants to sports organizations around the province.
“We’re going to keep working hard to make sure every young person in B.C. has the opportunity to be involved in recreational and competitive sports.
“Congratulations to all participating athletes, and thanks to the coaches, families and volunteers who make the BC Summer Games great. I wish you all fair play, camaraderie and memories that will last a lifetime.
“Good luck, and have fun!”
