Premier John Horgan has issued the following statement in honour of Rosh Hashanah:
“As Jewish communities all over British Columbia look forward to the beginning of the year 5779, I extend my warmest wishes to everyone celebrating Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year.
“Rosh Hashanah marks the start of the Days of Awe – a 10-day period of reflection, repentance and renewal leading up to Yom Kippur.
“The Jewish High Holidays are a time to gather with loved ones, reflect on the past year and set intentions for the year ahead.
“I hope that British Columbians of all faiths take this time to reflect on the remarkable diversity of our province and recommit to caring for each other.
“The universal values of justice, fairness and compassion are celebrated by our government. Together, we will continue to build a better future for everyone in B.C.
“To the Jewish people in British Columbia, Canada and around the globe celebrating Rosh Hashanah, I wish you a healthy, happy and sweet New Year!
“Shanah Tovah!”
