Premier John Horgan has issued the following statement in honour of Firefighters’ National Memorial Day:
“On behalf of the people of British Columbia, we honour firefighters in British Columbia, and across Canada, who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
“My heart goes out to all the families of those who have lost their loved ones protecting the communities they serve.
“We are deeply grateful for the bravery, dedication and selflessness firefighters demonstrate every day.
“As we honour their sacrifice, firefighters are currently working tirelessly, battling wildfires on an unprecedented scale.
“During this challenging time, our government is doing everything it can to support firefighters and emergency responders to keep people and communities as safe as possible.
“With wildfires active throughout the province, we will continue to work to make sure firefighters and support crews have the support, services and training they need to stay safe in the line of duty.
“Thank you to every firefighter, for everything you do to protect our loved ones, homes, communities and this beautiful province.
“You are a pillar of strength and support for every community in B.C. We are forever indebted to you.”
