Premier John Horgan has issued the following statement in celebration of Muharram, the Islamic New Year:
“On behalf of all of British Columbians, I would like to extend my best wishes to Muslim people in communities around the world as we welcome Muharram.
“For some, this holy month is marked by prayer and fasting; for others, it is a month of mourning and remembrance.
“Muharram is a time for respect, self-reflection and gratitude as we face a new year filled with new opportunities and challenges.
“On Muharram, we are all reminded to work together towards a better, brighter future with more opportunities for everyone.
“To Muslim people celebrating Muharram in British Columbia and around the world, I wish you all the best in the year to come.”
