Premier John Horgan has issued the following statement in honour of Yom Kippur, the Jewish Day of Atonement, which is one of the holiest days in the Jewish calendar:
“As the sun sets, Jewish families in British Columbia will begin a 25-hour fast to mark Yom Kippur.
“Yom Kippur marks the end of the Days of Awe – a 10-day period of reflection, repentance and renewal.
“The Day of Atonement is a time for self-examination and an opportunity to pledge to think about making a difference in the lives of others.
“Our government shares the commitment to make life better for people in the year ahead.
“As Jewish people all over British Columbia gather to worship and atone, I wish you a reflective and meaningful Yom Kippur.
“G'mar Chatima Tova.”
