The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure advises that ferry service between Barnston Island and Port Kells will be adjusted based on Fraser River water levels, and in support of any evacuation alerts and orders issued for Barnston Island.
With an evacuation alert now in place, the ferry is operating around the clock. Residents are encouraged to begin immediate relocation of large pets and livestock to a safe area, as no large animals will be allowed on the Barnston Ferry once an evacuation order is issued.
When levels at the Mission gauge crest 6.5 metres, the Barnston Island Ferry barge service will continue to operate for as long as practical, but will be suspended should the dock facilities become submerged.
The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure urges Barnston Island residents to follow the directions of local government officials during this period of high water.
