Drivers are advised that overnight paving will begin tonight on Highway 1, between Aspen Road and Shawnigan Lake Road, as part of the ongoing Malahat safety improvement project.
Work will take place from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday nights through Friday nights, for approximately two months. One northbound lane and one southbound lane will remain open during paving.
As paving progresses, lane reconfigurations will regularly occur throughout the site, in order to complete the paving across the new road surface. Drivers are reminded to use caution, watch for changing traffic patterns, and continue to expect delays of up to 20 minutes through the site during construction.
Drivers are reminded to obey the posted speed limit of 60 km/h for worker and public safety.
The $34-million Malahat safety improvement project includes expanding five kilometres of the highway to four lanes, and installing three kilometres of median barrier.
