Safety is the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure’s top priority.
This is why the ministry is doubling the length of the eastbound left-turn lane at the Highway 11-Highway 7 intersection and installing new LED lighting to make it easier for drivers to see clearly, especially at night.
Traffic frequently backs up and blocks lanes at this intersection, making this key connection point between the area’s major routes prone to crashes, particularly rear-end collisions. The ministry is taking action to address this top crash location by extending the 50-metre left-turn lane to 105 metres, to allow more room for vehicles to safely turn left.
“This intersection has been identified as a problem spot for crashes in Mission,” said Claire Trevena, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure. “That’s why we are doubling the length of the eastbound left-turn lane and adding lighting to help lower the chance of someone being involved in an accident at this location.”
Construction will begin this week and is expected to finish by December 2018. Crews will work at night in order to minimize traffic delays related to construction.
Drivers are asked to obey the posted speed limits in the construction zone and watch for workers. For the latest travel advisories, check DriveBC.ca

- From 2013 to 2017, ICBC recorded 528 collisions at this intersection.
- The ministry is investing $220,000 in this safety upgrade.
