Lana Popham, Minister of Agriculture, has issued the following statement to encourage British Columbians to thank B.C.’s farmers this Thanksgiving long weekend:
“Thanksgiving weekend is a time to gather with friends and family from near and far, to enjoy a wonderful meal and celebrate the season.
“Every year, I like to reflect on what I am thankful for, such as being able to call British Columbia home, having year-round access to wonderful local B.C. products and the privilege of championing in government B.C.’s farmers, ranchers, fishers and food processors.
“For my Thanksgiving dinner, I will be choosing to Buy BC to help support the province’s farmers, ranchers, producers and processors, and I encourage all British Columbians to join me.
“Cranberries from the Lower Mainland, turkeys from the Fraser Valley and Vancouver Island, fish from our coast, fresh vegetables from Vancouver Island, fruit from the Okanagan and locally baked breads and holiday desserts available all over the province mean your Thanksgiving dinner will be fresher, great tasting and more sustainable.
“With 200 land-based and 100 seafood commodities available in B.C., your Thanksgiving menu options are endless.
“Reach for products with the Buy BC logo when grocery shopping and choose local foods that create jobs, grow local economies and support families in our communities.
“On behalf of B.C. farmers and the Government of B.C., happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!”
