All British Columbians are encouraged to share their priorities for making life better and building a strong, sustainable economy, as the Province plans Budget 2020.
B.C. is an economic leader in Canada, but a truly prosperous province must work for everyone. Over the last two provincial budgets, government has made significant progress on making life more affordable, delivering improved services and building a strong, sustainable economy. To date, these actions include:
- eliminating MSP premiums – the biggest middle-class tax cut in a generation;
- introducing the new B.C. Child Opportunity Benefit;
- building 114,000 affordable homes over 10 years;
- removing interest from B.C. student loans; and
- supporting reconciliation through a commitment to share provincial gaming revenue with First Nations.
For the first time, the annual budget consultation process is kicking off in June, instead of September, to allow more time for review of the results of the consultation. People are asked to share their views on how government can continue to make life better and maintain a balanced budget that invests in British Columbians today and tomorrow.
British Columbia’s Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services invites people to participate in this year’s budget consultation by attending one of the upcoming consultation sessions throughout the province, making a written submission or by completing a survey online. Submissions must be received by June 28, 2019 at 5 p.m. for inclusion in the process.
