The University of British Columbia (UBC) and CUPE Local 116 have ratified an agreement under government’s Sustainable Services Negotiating Mandate.
The mandate focuses on improving services for people and ensuring fair and affordable compensation.
CUPE Local 116 represents nearly 2,300 employees who provide support services at UBC’s Vancouver campus, including administrative, trades, research assistance, food and hospitality services.
The agreement includes:
- a three-year term of April 1, 2019, to March 31, 2022;
- general wage increases of 2% in each year;
- improving services by establishing an apprenticeship incentive fund to help develop new and existing employees’ job skills/qualifications; and
- a targeted funding increase for research and engineering techs. This is designed to address recruitment and retention.
The Sustainable Services Negotiating Mandate supports government’s commitment to improve the services people count on, making life more affordable, and investing in sustainable economic growth. The mandate is consistent with B.C.’s commitment to balanced budgets and sound fiscal management. More than 220,000 public sector employees are covered by tentative or ratified agreements reached under the mandate.
