The board of governors at Thompson Rivers University (TRU) and members of CUPE Local 4879 have ratified an agreement under government’s Sustainable Services Negotiating Mandate.
The mandate focuses on improving services for people and ensuring fair and affordable compensation.
The agreement covers approximately 1,000 TRU employees, who work as system analysts, accountants, cashiers, bookstore clerks and buyers, registration and admissions clerks, maintenance and utility staff, library technicians, ancillary staff and open-learning support staff.
The agreement includes:
- a three-year term (Apr. 1, 2019, to Mar. 31, 2022);
- general wage increases of 2%, 2% and 2%; and
- a new position to assist TRU staff and support mental health and wellness, as well as new funding for resources and programs for wellness, innovation and training that support service improvements.
The Sustainable Services Negotiating Mandate supports government’s commitment to improving the services people count on, making life more affordable and investing in sustainable economic growth. The mandate is consistent with B.C.’s commitment to balanced budgets and sound fiscal management. There are nearly 229,000 public-sector employees covered by tentative or ratified agreements reached under the mandate.
