Rick Glumac, Parliamentary Secretary for Technology, promoted British Columbia’s economic, environmental and regional priorities at the 2019 Pacific NorthWest Economic Region (PNWER) Summit in Saskatoon, Sask. from July 21-25, 2019.
The annual summit is PNWER’s biggest networking event, bringing together over 500 business leaders and government legislators from the five U.S. states and five Canadian provinces and territories that make up the Pacific Northwest economic region.
“I am pleased to have been able to participate in this year’s Pacific NorthWest Economic Region Summit,” said Glumac, B.C.’s representative to the Pacific NorthWest Economic Region. “PNWER is an opportunity for our jurisdictions to come together and discuss topics of mutual interest, including best practices and common challenges. It’s our partnerships that are maximizing our region’s potential and making lives better for our citizens.”
At this year’s summit, Glumac participated in PNWER’s executive committee, setting goals and committing to action items for the upcoming year. He also co-chaired PNWER’s energy and environment working group, where he spoke about the convergence of environmental sustainability and economic development, the importance of clean energy and strategies to promote energy efficiency. As a session panelist, he shared an overview of B.C.’s climate policies, emphasizing the economic opportunities and innovation spurred from the B.C. government’s climate action strategies.
During the week, Glumac discussed integrated approaches to address invasive species prevention, including zebra and quagga mussels and northern pike.
The summit provided an opportunity to highlight the mutual benefits of free and fair trade, and the need for continued collaboration on key issues such as animal health and biosecurity.
