Premier John Horgan has issued the following statement about the passing of Paul Fraser, QC, conflict of interest commissioner for British Columbia:
“It is with a heavy heart that we mark the passing of a dedicated public servant.
“For more than 10 years, Paul Fraser served the legislative assembly and all British Columbians as conflict of interest commissioner. He also served as acting information and privacy commissioner in 2010.
“As an independent officer of the legislature, Mr. Fraser served with integrity and worked to maintain public confidence in elected officials.
“As a practising lawyer for more than 50 years, Mr. Fraser served his profession in several leadership roles, including the Canadian Bar Association, B.C. Branch, the Canadian Bar Association and the Commonwealth Lawyers Association.
“His actions reflect a deep commitment to strengthening the public institutions British Columbians count on.
“Our hearts and our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.”
