Premier John Horgan has issued the following statement to mark Eid al-Fitr, the end of Ramadan:
“Beginning today, the Muslim community in British Columbia and around the globe will begin to gather for Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of the month of Ramadan.
“Ramadan teaches us the importance of gratitude, while reminding us to be compassionate toward those who are less fortunate. As traditional prayers, food and well-wishes are exchanged, the universal values of unity, charity and peace are also celebrated on Eid al-Fitr. These are values this government shares.
“Whether through volunteerism, charitable giving or working in local leadership roles, the Muslim community in B.C. has helped build a better province for everyone.
“Today, and every day, our government is committed to standing up for diversity, inclusion and mutual respect.
“On behalf of every British Columbian, I wish all those who observed this holy month a joyous end of Ramadan.
“Eid Mubarak!”
